A message from the premier
Dear Yukoners,
The 2010-11 Capital and Operations and Maintenance budget, totaling $1 billion and $75 million, is the eighth budget in a row where we have increased the total investment in Yukon.
This budget continues to lay a solid foundation for Yukon growth in all sectors. Through investment in infrastructure, education and training, transportation, tourism marketing and new cultural facilities, energy and resource development, environment, and health care facilities and services, we continue to strategically plan for the economic and social future of Yukon.
With this budget, we have introduced a multi-year capital plan and a schedule of specific capital projects which will provide strategic direction for the next three years. These investments will create certainty and allow the private sector an opportunity to plan and grow their companies. This three-year capital planning process will allow government, in partnership with industry, to schedule major infrastructure projects in Yukon that will match the capacity of local contractors.
We continue to recognize and reflect in our policy the importance of a balanced society. In addition to our focus on the economy, we also recognize the importance of ensuring that Yukoners are provided with services that strengthen and support healthy individuals, families and communities.
We are confident that as we lay a solid foundation for growth in our territory, Yukoners will continue to enjoy a better quality of life.
Sincerely,
Dennis Fentie, Premier
