Community conversations

I will be meeting with Yukoners October through December, and potentially into the first part of the new year, in a series of community conversations, asking for ideas on how Yukon can become an even better place to live, work, play and raise a family.

The Yukon government had a local facilitator conduct research and work with community leaders to identify a broad cross-section of participants to invite to these conversations. They will include community volunteers, small business owners, entrepreneurs, high school students and others.

As we begin planning for the next budget and the coming year, these community conversations will provide us with another avenue to seek input and listen directly to what Yukoners have to say about a number of important topics.

The conversations will be small meetings of six to eight people and will focus on specific areas of interest within the broad themes of Economy and Education, and Improving the Quality of Life in Yukon. My role during these meetings will be to listen to what Yukoners have to say. I am greatly looking forward to having this new way to hear directly from citizens.

The specific topics to be discussed at the meetings are:

  • Economy and education:
    • Entrepreneurship
    • Innovation
    • Social economy (not-for-profit sector)
    • Exporting Yukon (Yukon companies that export goods or knowledge economy)
    • Emerging leaders
    • Retail sector
    • Economic development
    • Building for tomorrow
    • Tomorrow's leaders (high school students)
    • Professional services sector
  • Quality of life:
    • Supporting vulnerable Yukoners
    • Arts, culture and heritage
    • Sport and recreation
    • Community safety

If you have a particular interest in one of these topics and would like to share your ideas and thoughts with us, please email them directly to
